Penn State vs. Georgia
Spread: Georgia -6.5
Spread: Penn State’s season ended on about as down a note as it possibly could have for a team that still made a bowl game. Losses to Northwestern, Michigan, and Michigan State left this Nittany Lions team looking like a dead man walking. Meanwhile, Georgia closed red hot winning four straight after their devastating loss to Florida. The big question is this game will be which Penn State defense will show up? Is it the one that shut out Illinois or allowed seven points to a pretty solid Indiana offense? Or will it be the one that gave up 55 to Michigan State or 38 to Ohio State? The answer to the question likely lies in what we thing of Georgia. The Bulldogs are almost certainly closer to the OSU’s and MSU’s than Indiana and Illinois. Because of this, it’s probably that Georgia runs and throws all over Penn State and wins the game rather easily. Pick: Georgia -6.5
Total: There’s a major contrast in the total trends with these two teams. Penn State has played four straight over the total while Georgia is on a six game under streak. The reason for Georgia hitting so many unders is their excellent defense against some average to below average offenses. Penn State is just that, a below average offense who scored just 23 points per game. Georgia could very well go nuts and score the 42 points themselves, but in a game in which we can only expect a reasonable number of points from one team, there’s only one play. Pick: Under 42.5
