Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 7 years; you know that Rex Ryan is full of bravado. He may have lost some weight and changed colors from green to blue; but Ryan hasn’t lost any of the boastfulness which endears him to his players. For a small reminder, here are some of the best ‘tough guy’ Ryan quotes:

-“If you take a swipe at one of ours, we’ll take a swipe at two of yours.”
-“As much as I respect and admire Bill Belichick, I came here to kick his a–, and that’s the truth.”
-“I never came here to kiss Bill Belichick’s rings. I came here to win, let’s put it that way. I’m certainly not intimidated by New England or anybody else.”

It’s clear that Ryan won’t back down to anyone…until now. There’s a new guy in charge in Miami and he runs about 6’5″ 260 lb. Dan Campbell has inspired the Dolphins with his approach and thousands of memes with his meathead style (and I mean that complimentary). Ryan admitted that while he considers himself one of the toughest coaches in the league, he’ll make it a point not to get into it with Campbell. Per ESPN, here is Ryan after a recent Bills’ practice:

“Most times when I go across field I can whip most head coaches, but I ain’t whipping that one. I’m not even trying to whip that one. He’s a big dude, man. I’m 52 years old. I’d like to see 53.”

Fortunately for Ryan, the upcoming game between the Bills and Dolphins won’t be decided in a head-coach wrestling match and will, instead, come down to the players on the field. Despite losing three of their last four games, Ryan’s group bullied Joe Philbin’s Dolphins in Week 3 to the tune of 41-14. We’ll see if Campbell’s style rubs off on his players in this matchup and makes it a closer game.
