This high school football season has already brought us the video from Texas in which two players hit an official from behind. There was also the case of a high school player using a helmet to hit an opposing player. Now, another incident has surfaced, this time from a Tennessee high school game.
In the YouTube video above, Glencliff High School linebacker Malcolm Easley runs right through an official. From the looks of the video it seems the hit was intentional. According to Deadspin, the ref, Kyle Gill did an interview with the Gallatin News following the incident. Gill is convinced that the hit was intentional.
“I think it’s pretty obvious what went down,” Gill said.
Gill said that he had spoken to Easley just prior to the play.
“I had spoken to the player on the play before and he told me that I was in his way,” Gill said. “I asked him how long he’d been playing football and he had to realize that the referees are part of the field. I told him that he should have to avoid me and not the other way around. On the very next play, you saw what happened.”
Easley has been suspended by the Metro District Athletic committee following the incident.
