What’s bigger than ‘Revis Island’?

Well if you ask Detroit Lions cornerback, Darius Slay, his play exceeds that of the Jets’ star cornerback and thus, he should be called “The Earth”. Speaking with Nate Burleson of NFL Network after practice, Slay was asked if he can still cover the 33-year-old former receiver.

“I can cover anybody on this planet. I am The Earth. Call me The Earth.”

Slay also has another nickname: Big Play Slay and he’s such a fan of that moniker that it is also his Twitter handle. (I haven’t checked, but I’m pretty sure the handle “The Earth” isn’t available ATM). Slay initially said he is also willing to combine the two nicknames and be called “Big Play Earth”.

Towards the end of the interview, and perhaps sensing The Earth twitter handle was unavailable, Slay recanted his claim of a new nickname and settled on just keeping his original one:

“No, my name’s Big Play Slay. That’s my nickname. That’s all day, every day. I’m just, ‘Hey, I’m Big Play.’ That’s all I do, I try to make big plays.”

The Lions will be counting on lots of big plays from Mr. Slay as they attempt to win their first playoff game since the 1991 season.
