According to CBSSports.com Tiger Woods has withdrawn due to a back injury from the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California after finishing only 11 holes.

Woods had spent much of Thursday’s round clutching his back until he finally called it quits. This was only Woods’ second tournament of the golf season and he was +2 on the day when he decided to throw in the towel.

The withdrawal is another major setback for Woods who returned to the links last week for the first time this season and shot an 82, the worst round of his professional career and only the second time he has failed to break 80.

In his last four professional outings woods has missed the cut twice and has withdrawn twice, leaving many to wonder whether Woods will ever be able to become the dominant force he once was on the golf course.

Woods had spoken earlier in the week quite candidly about the importance of recovering at Torrey Pines this weekend and preparing himself for a run at the Masters in April, which may now be in doubt as well.
