Stranger From Same Town Gives Dying Woman A New Kidney
Two strangers from the same town are now connected through the gift of a kidney. Kara Yimoyines was suffering from two failing kidneys when she took her search for a donor to Facebook. Nicole Baltzer read the plea and knew she had to act. "I think that's when it really hit me. I was like 'I can do something about this, maybe I'm a match." Baltzer was a perfect match. Yimoyines got the great news just before Christmas. The single mom is making the most of her new lease on life. "From being asleep most of the time and not feeling very good to just recovering who I was a few years ago, or five years ago, even 10 years ago and then giving me that time back with my children." The two Winchester moms have found so much more in common besides sharing a kidney. "I work as a web developer and she's a web designer." "She's from the Midwest. I'm from the Midwest and we both like sports." Nicole hopes her sacrifice is an inspiration to her family and others. "Actions speak louder than words. I feel it when I look at Kara. I see that this has been a good thing for everybody." kidney.org says over 101,000 Americans are in need of a new kidney but only about 17,000 receive one each year.
