Last night was an off night for both the Stanley Cup Final and the NBA Finals. However, that doesn’t mean that the sports world was devoid of championship game intensity. The NCAA Women’s College World Series played Game 2 last night and it was an absolute classic.
If you’re unfamiliar, Auburn and Oklahoma are the two final teams remaining and they are in the midst of playing a best of three series for the title. Game 1 was won by Oklahoma on Monday 3-2, which meant that the Sooners had the opportunity to clinch last night. The Sooners exploded for seven runs in the first two innings, but Auburn battled back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the second before a two run homer from Kasey Cooper tied it at seven in the bottom of the fourth. Neither team tacked on any runs in the fifth and in the top of the sixth inning with a runner on the Sooners Shay Knighten got a hold of one, leading to Tiffany Howard making one of the best game saving catches you’ll see.
Here’s another angle.
One final time with a freeze frame of the catch. Look at the full extension.
The best part about the catch? It ended the inning and kept the game tied. It would remain that way into extra innings when Emily Carosone hit a walk-off grand slam to win it for the Tigers 11-7 and even the series. Game 3 is tonight at 7pm on ESPN.
