I have the utmost respect for anyone who actually puts in the time and effort to better themselves by actually going to a gym. I don’t, mostly because I don’t like gyms, but also because I’m lazy.
Anyway, what you’re about to see transpire at a gym deserves yours and my respect and is far more impressive than any casual gym-goer that you or I have ever seen.
This is Shirley Webb. She’s 78-years-old and this her deadlifting 225 Lbs. Yes, you read that correctly. She’s 78 and she’s deadlifting more than most 20-something year old males can deadlift.
Whether you’re in your office, your home, or on a train, just take a second and give a little golf clap up for Shirley. This is impressive stuff.
Now, in the effort of full disclosure, ESPN has reported the weight of her deadlift and it’s listed as such on the video, but we cannot confirm independently the weight.
So with that being said, is it entirely possible that these weights are Styrofoam and she’s really lifting the weight equivalent of a cantaloupe? Sure, the internet’s duped better men than myself many times before.
However, Shirley’s at the gym, making herself better at 78 year old, and is in all likelihood lifting an obscene amount of weight for someone her age.
So give it up for Shirley, and go lift some things up and put them down a few times a week. If you do it enough, you might just be as physically fit as she is when you’re an octogenarian yourself.
