If Syracuse Wins Championship, Las Vegas Bettor Wins $100,000

Bryan Altman, CBS Local Sports

When No. 10 seed Syracuse flashed across the screen on Selection Sunday fans of The Orange rejoiced while most analysts and fans of other bubble schools like Monmouth, St. Bonaventure and others revolted in horror that Syracuse made the tournament at all.

Most thought the Orange’s regular season resume was far weaker than that of other bubble teams and that they weren’t worthy of a spot in the big dance.

Boy were they wrong.

Syracuse is now one win away – albeit, a win over the best team in the nation in No. 1 seed UNC – from a National Championship berth.

They’re also one win away from putting one faithful Las Vegas bettor closer to a ridiculous payout should the Orange win it all.

According to ESPN’s David Purdum, four people placed bets on the Orange at odds of 1000-1 to win it all. The total sum of the bets was $350, the highest of which was a $100 dollar wager that would pay $100,000 in the event of a Syracuse championship win.

Not a bad return on investment.

Whomever holds that winning ticket, I can only offer one piece of advice… HEDGE YOUR BET!

Get moving to the nearest sportsbook right now and plunk down $25,000 on North Carolina. Walk away from this thing a winner.

Sure, the Orange have already blown away any and all expectations and anything is possible, but don’t risk it.

Especially not against a juggernaut of a team like North Carolina.

Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he’d gladly trade them for just one championship for any of his other three teams.
