Donald Trump In 2014: Teams Are Making Mistake Not Drafting Manziel

Bryan Altman, CBS Local Sports

While presidential candidate Donald Trump continues to garner endorsements and votes from around the country, there’s one endorsement Trump made back in 2014 that he probably wishes he could take back right about now.

As Johnny Manziel began to slip further and further down the draft board in the 2014 NFL Draft, Trump tweeted out that teams not selecting Manziel were “making a mistake.”

Manziel was released today by the Cleveland Browns after two unproductive years in Cleveland on the field and two destructive years off of it.

Manziel is still embroiled in legal controversy over an abuse case with his ex-girlfriend and has had numerous other legal run-ins and substance issues, notably with alcohol.

So suffice it to say, if Manziel were an investment, and Trump an investor, the business mogul and presidential hopeful would be significantly in the red on this one.

Let’s hope he makes better decisions as commander-in-chief should he win the 2016 election. Otherwise, help us all.

Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he’d gladly trade them for just one championship for any of his other three teams.
