Read our recent interview with Summer Rae.

1. Born Danielle Louise Moinet in Manhasset, New York, she grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. She attended East Carolina University in Greenville, where she earned a degree in marketing.

2. Moinet played cornerback from 2008 to 2011 for the Chicago Bliss of the Lingerie Football League (now called the Legends Football League), a 7-on-7 tackle football league featuring women in bikinis. She was the Bliss team captain and made the all-star game in her final season.

3. After the 2011 LFL season, Moinet signed with Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), WWE’s developmental arm at the time. She appeared that November as Abraham Washington’s manager as well as a ring announcer. Moinet soon changed her name to Summer Rae, taking on more wrestling clients. She became FCW General Manager the following March and debuted as a competitor a month later, losing to Sofia Cortez as part of an elimination triple threat match.

4. When WWE NXT replaced FCW, Rae continued on as a ring announcer. In early 2013, she stepped between the ropes to compete, instigating a feud with Paige. Rae soon moved to the big time, debuting as Fandango’s dance partner that spring on Raw.

5. Rae teams up with Layla in a new tag-team combination called the Slayers. Fandango unwittingly brought the two together when he replaced Rae with Layla as manager. The two feuded over Fandango before turning on him. United by their hatred, they would distract him during matches, causing him to lose. The two soon officially joined forces as the Slayers.

6. Rae has been a regular character on the hit reality show Total Divas since its second season. The show chronicles the lives of various WWE Divas in and out of the ring. Whereas some characters are referred to by their real names, at least in part, Rae goes solely by her ring name.

7. Rae stars in Marine 4: Moving Target, the latest installment of the Marine franchise, along side The Miz. She is the first Diva to leap from the small screen to the big screen.

8. Rae dedicates significant time and energy to the Dean Thomas Moinet Foundation, a charity that helps “families with medically fragile children.”
